CENTER FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF LIGHT-MATTER INTERACTION
STATE UNIVERSITY OF MARINGA
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
Dr. Astrath obtained his BSc, MSc, and PhD in Physics in 2002, 2003, and 2006, respectively, in the Department de Physics at Universidade Estadual de Maringá, Brazil. He was a Post-Doctorial Fellow in 2006 to 2007 in the same department. From 2007 to 2009, Dr. Astrath worked as a Research Associate at National Research Council Canada - Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation. Dr. Astrath became Professor at Universidade Estadual de Maringá in 2009. Dr. Astrath has an international research record in the development of new materials and non-destructive characterization of materials, especially using optical and photothermal techniques. He has been currently investigating light-matter interaction both experimentally and theoretically. His research focuses on developing new methodologies for measuring nanometer displacement induced by laser on solids and liquids. Theory and experiments on the effects of radiation pressure induced by pulsed and continuous lasers have also been carried out lately.
Bachelor's degree in Physics from Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1992), bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná (1987), master's degree in Physics from Universidade de São Paulo (1994) and Ph. D. in Physics from Universidade de São Paulo (1999). Postdoctorate at Liquid Crystal Institute, Kent State University -Kent, Ohio - USA (2003). Has experience in Physics, focusing on Physical Statistics and Thermodynamics, acting on the following subjects: anomalous diffusion, field theory, Tsallis statistics, liquid crystal elastormers and photothermal phenomena.
